Unlike legacy fonts which require downloading separate font software packages, modern operating systems like Windows 11 have **built-in Punjabi layout support** (Gurmukhi typing script) pre-configured with the default Unicode **Raavi font**. To start typing in Punjabi on your PC, you simply need to activate it in your Settings.
Open Windows Settings
Press the shortcut keys Win + I on your keyboard, or search for "Settings" in your Windows search bar and open it.
Navigate to Time & Language
On the left sidebar, click on **Time & Language**, then click on **Language & Region** on the right side of the screen.
Add Punjabi (Gurmukhi)
Click the blue **Add a language** button. In the search box, type **Punjabi** (or ਪੰਜਾਬੀ), select it, click Next, and then click **Install**.
Windows will take a moment to fetch the Gurmukhi keyboard resources.
Configure Language Options
Once installed, click the three horizontal dots (`...`) next to Punjabi, open **Language Options**, and verify that the keyboard listed is **Gurmukhi (Raavi)**. You can add alternative layouts like "Phonetic" here as well.
Switch and Start Typing
To switch between English and Punjabi typing, simply press the shortcut keys Win + Spacebar or Alt + Shift. You will see the language indicator in the bottom-right corner of your taskbar change from `ENG` to `PUN`.
